In an exciting bit of news for fans of Reese Witherspoon's unorthodox attorney Elle Wood, James Van Der Beek -- the '90s heartthrob actor best known for his role inDawson's Creek-- will play a recurring role in the upcoming Amazon prequel seriesElle, as reported byVariety. Starring Lexi Minetree in the title role, Ellefollows a younger version of Witherspoon's character years before the events ofLegally Blonde, specifically looking at the formative high school years that influenced her personality, work ethic and trendy obsession with fashion. Van Der Beek will reportedly figure into the show as high school superintendent-turned-prospective mayoral candidate, Dean Wilson. As reported byVariety, the 48-year-old Van Der Beek will have a recurring role in the series. Van Der Beek has long enjoyed a successful career in the wilds of television, as seen with his early breakthrough performance in The WB's classic teen drama,Dawson's Creek.
